[Webinar] Open government: issues and challenges

Citizens around the globe want more transparent, effective, and accountable governments – and institutions that can empower people and are responsive to their aspirations.

In the past several years, the Internet has played a significant role in making government information more available and useful to its citizens. The issues of openness and transparency, and the use of technology to empower citizens have attracted considerable attention from citizens, scholars, policymakers, and more.

The July Internet governance webinar will focus on open government and the core challenges associated with this concept. The webinar will be hosted by Veronica Cretu, member of the Steering Committee of the Open Government Partnership, and president of the CMB Training Center in Moldova. Read more about Veronica below.

The webinar will discuss the following in detail:

  • Open government and the impact of the Internet, the key players in open government, and why citizens should be aware and involved.
  • The role of the Open Government Partnership in securing ambitious commitments from member countries, and the open government challenges that are being addressed, including improving public services, increasing public integrity, more effectively managing public resources, creating safer communities, and increasing corporate accountability.

Join us today, Tuesday 30th July, at 10:00 GMT. Participants will be able to discuss the topic with our host. Attendance is free. To join us, please register by filling in the registration form.
