Assessment of the impact of Internet Exchange Points – empirical st... - a study done by ISOC shows the Kenya Internet Exchange Point (KIXP) currently localizes approximately 1Gbit/s of peak traffic, reduces latency from 200-600 ms to 2-10 ms to 2-10ms allowing ISPs to save almost $1.5 million per year on international connectivity.
On the other hand, the Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN) currently localizes 300Mbit/s of peak traffic and reduces latency from 200-400 ms to 2-10 ms allowing operators to save upto $1 million per year on international connectivity.
These IXPs have increases mobile data revenues for operators, attracted the localization of content including the hosting of the Google cache, raised government tax revenues, improved regional communication and lead to the repatriation of previously externalized financial platforms for online banking services.
