Interview: Nevena Ruzic, Serbia

Some days ago I was introduced to an old Diplo friend: Nevena Ruzic, from Serbia. So I also invited her for a short interview, to which she was very kind and shared a little - we can say she is the first of many generations of the IG programme: it all started in 2003!

SEIITI: Nevena, what are you currently doing professionally? How did you start things with Diplo and how was that activity significant to you?

NEVENA: To answer your questions, I'll be very brief - I… Continue

Is Wikipedia "coming of age"?

“We are no longer at the point that it is acceptable to throw things at the wall and see what sticks,” said Michael Snow, a lawyer in Seattle who is the chairman of the Wikimedia board. “There was a time probably when the community was more forgiving of things that were inaccurate or fudged in some fashion — whether simply misunderstood or an author had some ax to grind. There is less tolerance for that sort of problem now.”

That quote is from a NY Times article on Wikipedia… Continue

The Risk of Geo-Political Masochism - The US Congress and ICANN

On August 4, before recessing for the holidays, the U.S. House Committee that oversees the Commerce Department published their opinion, under the chairmanship of the powerful Democrat congressman Henry Waxman, proposing cementing the US-government oversight of ICANN by making the JPA (Joint Project Agreement) permanent, and ending the current “transition phase”. This opinion triggered many comments, although probably due to the August recess, not a lot of public discussion. The public debate… Continue

Do you make this mistake when applying for fellowships?

I have been talking to many different folks who got funding to attend different events and I'm surprised that so many people do not know this simple principle: the full cup v. the empty cup.

Imagine this situation:

You are a member of the judging committee that will give fellowships for attending a certain conference. And you have received dozens of emails requesting funding.

After some filtering based on skills,… Continue

The power of e-collaboration....

Different steps need to be taken when implementing and designing an initiative about e-collaboration through the use of web 2.0 tools. Choosing the right web 2.0 tool can be very stressful, especially, when you have different projects. How can we enssure that we deliver what people want and that everyone has a clear picture of what is involved. We shouldn’t simply add web 2.0 tools or other features simply because they are available or free....any thoughts??

Check this out -… Continue

ICT development and its impact

The development of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) and internet in developing countries has both been rewarding and has suffered the consequences due to lack of proper management.
