Wisdom from the Father

Vint Cerf (one of the Founding Fathers of the Internet) congratulated Sub Saharan Africa for rapid uptake of the Internet and Mobile Tech and offered some core concepts on the Internet at IGF11 Opening Session:

1. Multi-Stakeholderism- He Strongly endorses Multi-Stakeholder Approach. He expressed how encouraged he was by Regional IGF and hopes these will feed into annual meeting

2. What type of Internet? Underscored the importance of a Global, Open and Interoperable Internet.

3. Safety- Time to Focus on Safety in the Network. We need to be safe and also feel safe.

4. The Global- Need for Common Agreements on a Global Scale. Then need to ensure that these are adhered to or enforced as necessary.

5. IPV6- Reminds us that the Internet Address Space developed in 1973 by himself & Bob Khan has run out. IPV4 went into operation in 1983 and mark your calendar for two (2) upcoming dates:

o June 6th 2010 when IPV6 will be turned on for a week.
o Auspiciously - Jan 1st 2013 (30 years from the day IPV4 was turned on), we will turn on and leave on IPV6.
