Aldo Matteucci, Diplo's resident (self-styled) contrarian (I think he is more of a word artist), posted an excellent piece on controlling narrative. He starts with the fight for control of the narrative about the Costa Concordia shipwreck and illustrates further with examples from diplomacy. He introduces two types of controlling narrative: internal (in the conference room) and external (public). Worth reading for anyone involved or following global policy making: http://deepdip.wordpress.com/2012/01/23/controlling-the-narrative/
