[Webinar] Cable connections and the cost of Internet access

Our July webinar is coming up! Join us next Tuesday, 31st July, at 13:00 GMT, to discuss a much-awaited topic: cable connections and the cost of Internet access.

The number and capacity of cable connections affect the cost of access to the Internet. Yet, there are other factors that come into play, including the cost of laying these connections, control over access to the connections, and 'last mile' (or 'local loop') costs. While access costs have decreased in the past few years, consumers - especially in developing countries such as Africa - are still required to pay hefty prices. Why are prices still high? What or who is influencing the prices? Government? Industry players?

Our special host is Nnenna Nwakanma, council chair of the Free Software and Open Source Foundation for Africa (FOSSFA), convener of the West Africa Internet Governance Forum, and director at Nnenna.Org. Participants will be able to ask questions and engage in discussion during the webinar.
