UN Resolution on ICTs for Development

All that talking at the IGF2010 is not lost in the cloud. There is a resolution being negotiated in the 2nd Committee
of the U.N. in New York. From what I see the resolution makes a good attempt at capturing concerns raised during the IGF2010 vis-à-vis: multilateral, transparent & democratic management of critical internet resources; the broadening

digital divide; continuation of the IGF plus the honing of its business model and
mandates. For those not used to the language of UN resolutions, take note of
the first word [in italics] of each
paragraph and that word determines the effectiveness of it. Therefore, ‘decides’ means action to be taken. This resolution
is a work in progress and I will try to update on the final outcome. Why I have
brought this up is because each country with specific views to be included in
this resolution, can still do so through their respective 2nd
Committee delegate, New York.

Thanks Stephanie...we are almost there, just one more hurdle for the ICT-4-Development resolution. It was adopted at Second Committee level and now remains to be adopted by the General Assembly at its next sitting (in December). At that point the resolution will become executable mandates and public policy.
