The workshop (#188) on the above topic, on the second day of IGF11, shared experiences of a diverse group of stakeholders. The panel consisted of the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Information and Communication, Kenya, Chief Operating Officer, Internet Society, Representative from the Uganda Martyrs University, Kenya Education Network Trust (KENET), and a representative from Safaricom a broad band provider in Kenya.
The discussion took place on the provision of connectivity to the universities, the experience in Kenya and also for Uganda and touched upon the use of online content by the academics. The audience posed pertinent queries on the difficulties faced with regard to getting the lecturers to upload content. The discussion ended up concluding that, though the infra structure is provided, it is still people who need to make it work, and changing the mind set of mainly the senior academic members is crucial. Obtaining the assistance of
good students to upload lecture material is also a good practice to follow.
