SUMMARY

This week, United States and UK blamed the Russian military for the NotPetya malware attack, which hit major companies and government systems across the globe in June 2017.

In U.S, Congressional Democrats introduced legislation on Wednesday that would provide more than $1 billion to boost cyber security of U.S. voting systems. Moreover, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson wants to create a new “cyber bureau” at the department to build relationships with foreign governments and coordinate on international cybersecurity priorities.

The European Union is taking active steps to ensure the smooth flow of data between member countries and the rest of the World in the furure while also ensuring the privacy of users.

The European Security and Defence College will in September launch a cyber platform to coordinate education, training, evaluation and exercises (ETEE) in the field of cyber security/defence across Europe. The Parliament has approved rules that put an end to geoblocking on ecommerce websites in Europe.

Children are being sexually exploited, trafficked and sold online on an unprecedented scale as technological advances enable abusers to target victims with impunity, a coalition of governments, charities and tech companies said on Wednesday.

YouTube and Instagram face being blocked by Russian internet service providers as a result of a standoff between one of the country's richest businessmen and an opposition leader.

Online platforms should remove posts promoting terrorism within one hour after receiving complaints, according to a draft European Commission document that leaked on Tuesday (13 February).
