SUMMARY

This week; the European Union is launching an unprecedented public consultation to find out what Europeans fear most about the future of the internet. Also, the European Commission has announced that EU roaming charges will be binned in June after proposed wholesale roaming price caps received final clearance from the European Parliament.

On Internet shutdown, Cameroon government said on Thursday it had restored the internet to its restive anglophone region. On Net neutrality, FCC Chairman Ajit Pai met with executives at Facebook, Cisco, Oracle, Intel and other major tech companies this week as the federal agency considers rolling back controversial net neutrality rules.
Besides, in a move seen as a victory for net neutrality advocates, Canada's telecom regulator said all data delivered online should be treated equally by internet service providers.
On data protection, Audio giant Bose is reportedly using its wireless headphones and speakers to spy on users and sell their private data to third party companies, a lawsuit claims. Also, the indian government is in the process of framing a policy to protect the data imprints on WhatsApp, Facebook and other applications, the Supreme Court was informed on Tuesday. In addition, Twitter is considering localizing the storage of some of its Russian users’ personal data in order to comply with data localization laws, TechCrunch has confirmed.
Fake news is playing a massive role on Twitter in the run-up to French and German elections, a British study has said amid concerns on Russian interference
Google has agreed to be less controlling about what Android phone manufacturers can do in Russia, as the result of a settlement today with the country’s antimonopoly agency.
Facebook is developing a small helicopter that can be deployed in emergencies to deliver internet access, the company said.

Baidu, one of China's biggest technology companies, said Tuesday it would open source its self-driving-car software in hopes of accelerating progress.
