Interview: Andrés Piazza, Argentina

Today I have an interview with my friend Andrés Piazza, from Argentina. He has been doing a lot of interesting work on Internet governance and is a great person to follow on Twitter and other social media channels in case you are looking forward to be engaged on Latin American issues.

SEIITI: Andrés, there was a recent meeting in Rio on the LAC preparatory meeting for the IGF. Can you choose one specific issue that was discussed and share with us?

ANDRÉS: From the 4 agenda items I would choose the "Critical Internet Resources debate". It was a high qualified regional panel (Oscar Robles, Olga Cavalli, Tony Harris, Jacqueline Morris and Demi Getschko) and many issues on the table:

- New Gtld and the Obstacles that ICANN faced, regarding ITR Report, Trademarks Lobbys and GAC Statements.

- IPv6 and Mirror Servers. There was emphasys and consensus in the important role that LACNIC with it´s projects (+Raices and IPv6 tour), but the neccessity from another Actors to contribute. Not only talking about Governments but also Civil Society. I was particularly glad that LACRALO, (an Organization I´m involved since it´s creation in 2006 and as Chair since 2009) was mentioned as one of the other forums.

An Interesting summary could be found at Alejandro Pisanty´s blog:
http://pisanty.blogspot.com/2009/08/recursos-criticos-de-internet-r...

SEIITI: Great - thanks for the link to Alejandro's blog! Andrés, what are you doing today and how this is connected to the IG process?

ANDRÉS: Right now I´m involved in a diversity of areas related to IG Process. As a lawyer in my professional role, and as a Teacher in some courses (local) in Argentina. But the most specific activities are developed in AGEIA DENSI, where I´m research director and, since February 2009, in LACRALO (Latin American and Caribbean Regional At Large Organization), Involved in ICANN process and promoting regional participation and internet users capacity building also.

Regarding Diplo, I studied in the IGCBP08.

SEIITI: What projects do you have for the future? Which issues are you concerned with that people working on similar themes can contact you?

ANDRÉS: LACRALO is looking to another IG spaces in order to grow the quantity and quality of the participation and it´s contribution. We need to work in fostering our imput capacity, not only creating more ALS´s but also improving their leaders habilities, the cooperation with ofher forums, regional and worldwide.

Also I´m very interested in improving my personal involvement with Diplo´s Community and projects and other academic initiatives regarding IG.

In the professional field, I´m planning to keep my consulting-advisor role in "Internet Law" and specially supporting local entrepreneurs in Argentina.

SEIITI: Good luck! We have exchanged a lot of ideas in the past so I'm confident there will be a lot more to tell over the next years. Thanks for sharing this, Andrés! For those of you looking for a contact in tech law in Argentina, I definitely recommend to be in touch with him HERE
