This week, "The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill to renew the National Security Agency’s warrantless internet surveillance program, overcoming objections from privacy advocates and confusion prompted by morning tweets from President Donald Trump that initially questioned the spying tool".
On cyber geopolitics, "a report commissioned by Democrats on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee challenges the adequacy of Twitter's and Facebook’s investigations into Russian manipulation of their platforms to influence British politics".
On net neutrality, "Democrats rejoiced on Tuesday that they had secured enough votes to force the Senate to debate whether to restore the U.S. government’s recently repealed net neutrality rules".

On Artificial intelligence, "The European Union is planning to spend one billion euros on supercomputers to help with research into creating artificial intelligence and fighting climate change"".
On freedom of expression, "UN human rights experts urged Iranian authorities to respect the rights of protesters and voiced concern over Tehran's restriction of social messaging services, in a joint statement issued by the UN agency for human rights". China shut as many as 128,000 websites, the official Xinhua news agency reports, citing government data.
On Data protection, "China’s powerful internet titans are suddenly on the defensive amid concerns that the data they gather is compromising consumer privacy".

On infrastructure, "Nepal opened an optical fiber link across the Himalayan mountains to China on Friday, ending years of dependency on India for internet access".

On domain name, "the US Justice Department has closed its investigation into VeriSign Inc.'s involvement in an auction for the .web internet domain, giving the .com and .net operator a chance to acquire what could be the next big domain".

Cette semaine, "la Chambre des représentants américaine a adopté un projet de loi visant à renouveler le programme de surveillance mettant fin aux injonctions des défenseurs de la vie privée et la confusion suscitée par les tweets du président Donald Trump.
Sur la cyber-géopolitique, un rapport des Démocrates remet en question l'adéquation des enquêtes de Twitter et Facebook sur la manipulation russe de leurs plates-formes pour influencer la politique britannique.
Sur la neutralité du Net, les démocrates se sont réjouis mardi d'avoir obtenu suffisamment de voix pour forcer le Sénat à débattre de la possibilité de rétablir les règles de neutralité du net récemment abrogées par le gouvernement américain.
Sur l'intelligence artificielle, l'Union européenne prévoit de dépenser un milliard d'euros en superordinateurs pour aider à la recherche sur l'intelligence artificielle et la lutte contre le changement climatique.
Sur la liberté d'expression, les experts des droits de l'homme des Nations Unies ont exhorté les autorités iraniennes à respecter les droits des manifestants et exprimé leur inquiétude sur la restriction des services de messagerie par Téhéran, dans une déclaration conjointe de l'ONU. La Chine a fermé plus de 128 000 sites Web, rapporte l'agence de presse officielle Xinhua, citant des données du gouvernement.
En ce qui concerne la protection des données, les géants de l'internet chinois sont soudainement sur la défensive en raison des inquiétudes que les données qu'ils recueillent compromettent la vie privée des consommateurs.
