In the IGCBP - Internet Governance Capacity Building Programme class EuroDig/Europe H, an interesting criticism was recently made to the "Internet Governance Under Construction" image below:


One of the course participants mentioned that she likes the idea of building blocks, however she would be more inclined to see it as a spheroid, with issues becoming more salient at a certain point in time and others reemerging after a while, while the core remains blurred in a mix of all types of connected issues.


After asking for opinions on this idea, another participant provided some suggestions:

I agree. A construction site is a useful metaphor, but also too dated, rigid, and planned (architects develop their buildings in great detail, unlike the internet, which emerges without a structure as such, but rather as a phenomenon spurred by basic rules and protocols.

Some work has been done to visualize the internet (not IG issues) like the one in the attached link. Is this more what you were thinking of?
