@Diplo Alumni -- join us on Facebook

Hello, everyone!

I'd like to invite all of our Diplo alumni to join us on our new Diplo Alumni Group on Facebook if you haven't done so yet. We're having a great time refreshing memories and renewing bonds. This closed group allows us to network in a more informal, private meeting space that many of you are already familiar with (and if you need help, just let me know -- I'm happy to assist). Not only can we share updates and brainstorm new ideas, but we can meet in person at regional…

IGF open consultation and MAG meeting this week! Attend online -- register now

Great news! Registration for online participation is now available (and required) for the upcoming OC/MAG meeting, as a full meeting participant (online). Users who have already registered as on-site participants must re-register as online participants to access the online system. I think it will be helpful to spread this information widely, so online participants are aware of the process.…

Online or in situ - which came first?

It doesn’t take a genius to figure that one out. Of course in situ gatherings, including both meetings and kids’ games, came first, probably around campsites and campfires. Interesting to note, then, that the 2015 World Championship League of Legends e-sport games had 360 million hours of live viewing, 334 million daily unique impressions, and average concurrent viewership of over 4.2 million, with a maximum of 14 million at its peak. There were 36 million unique viewers during the 15-day…

Rafik Dammak (APC, ICANN, Diplo) on DNS, ICANN & content in APC news

Diplo alumni, expert and tutor (watch for the upcoming IGMENA course) Rafik Dammak was interviewed by APC news in We need to avoid a situation where the DNS is used to police content': A conversation with ICANN's Rafik Dammak.

There are too many interesting points to summarise here, so I suggest you read the article, but here are a…

IGF 2015 has begun - what do YOU want to achieve? Input requested on overarching theme and sub-themes

Hi everybody,

As a new MAG member, the Open Consultation and MAG meetings in Geneva last week were very exciting for me. One very important point brought out in our discussions, is that the IGF 2015 should be organised in a bottom-up way, with sufficient consultation with the IG community. We decided that consulting YOU about the overarching theme and sub-themes for the IGF in Brazil was very important. Please respond to the call for participation - think about it seriously, join the…

CS nominations to the Coordination Council of the NETmundial Initiative

Currently few civil society representatives have nominated themselves to the Coordination Council of the NETmundial Initiative - in part this is due to dissatisfaction with the initiative, but even some of those who had previous expressed enthusiasm or interest have not nominated themselves.  In case this was an oversight, you have a few more days to do so.  Please use the nomination form here:…

I am forwarding this important information about the NETmundial Initiative and Civil Society, from the Civil Society Coordination Group. If I can answer any questions, or assist in any way, please do post here for discussion. Cheers, Ginger

Dear Civil Society members,

Does remote participation engender schizophrenia? Oh, right, we call it multitasking!

No, seriously! I am attending the IGF 2014 online -- with an 8 hour time difference. That's hard enough to start with. Fortunately, I'm in good company, with the Nepad/Diplo Internet governance in Africa: an introduction participants, who are attending and discussing sessions and issues through the the Africa Virtual Remote Hub. They are doing a great job!

Back to the schizophrenia: so, I am online in Istanbul, online in the Africa Virtual Remote Hub, attending my home and family in…
