Child safety online: Theme report from the IGF 2010

This report is the result of a team effort by Sokol Haxiu and Alexandra Vasile.

If there is one thought that we took away from all the workshops and sessions dedicated to child safety online, it is this: development of

More representation in central IGF bodies: Message from the Dynamic Coalition for child safety online #dc9

together to look at issues related to online safety for children.

Although many questions were raised in the…

Better access and clearer legislation: Conclusions from the Commonwealth RN on child safety #rn2

After sitting in on the Commonwealth Regional Network meeting on child safety, I think there were two issues which kept arising in the conversation: access as a whole and the need for more specific legislation

about child safety online.

First of all, the topic of access was mentioned by participants from various Commonwealth states, but especially by the speaker representing West Africa, who made some…

Educating about children's behavior online: Lessons from Advancing digital citizenship #ws127

behavior is. The speakers seemed to agree on the fact that digital citizenship

is an emerging field that needs more attention and research. Also, the message

that was prevalent throughout the meeting was that citizenship education needs

to be…

Don’t wait till it’s too late: Messages from the Child safety workshop on new types of location services #ws37

John Carr (eNACSO) made a really good point about how today’s challenges reagarding child safety are not the same problems that we were facing a couple of years ago. Now, children unfortunately give away much too

much about their whereabouts, by constantly posting comments on social newtworking

sites such as Twitter and Facebook. Carr pointed out that some children who are

now on Facebook have close to 5000 friends. Obviously, only a handful of those

are…

IGF day 1 Favourite: Strategies to prevent and fight online child sexual exploitation in developing countries !

This has been one of the most grave topics that needs a greater voice in the online world. Unlike other issues where there is only sustained impact of IG in our day today life this topic has greater impact in invasion of our privacy and with serious implications. The topic was moderated by Hindenburgo a classmate at IGCBP Class B.

Child abuse and child pornography is a key issue that needs wider addressal as it is of paramount importance to protect our children. The panel had key… Continue
