This paper discusses the privacy and data-protection implications surrounding the proliferation of facial recognition technology (FRT) and presents a harmonized approach to…

Participation in policy making, whose responsibility is it ?
I recently completed the Diplo Foundation Internet Governance Advanced course in Privacy (Aug 2012) and the Introduction to Policy Research (Nov 2012). My project proposal sought to draw attention to the quality of the stakeholder consultation process as a precursor to legislative changes. Specific focus was given to the HIPCAR project on St. Kitts-Nevis which has resulted in proposed and in some cases actual legislative changes in the interception of communications, e-commerce, …

Demographic effects on Social media and Internet penetration
Demographically we have three generations, that is X, Y and Z. Although the years of 'cohort start' of these generations are not truly distinct, these generations can be used in studying on how Internet and Computer penetration has affected different generations. For starters, generations X, Y and…

To trust to not to trust: Our experience with technology at elections
In December 2007 Kenya held her third General Elections under multiparty democracy. After announcement of the results, violence broke out in many parts of the country, with claims that the elections had been rigged. An agreement that came to be known as the National Accord was brokered by an African Union sponsored panel of African personalities. Under this framework, an Independent Review Commission (IREC) led by Judge Johann Kriegler was formed and tasked with investigating the cause of…
