Self regulation on internet

During week 5 of the OMAN IGCBP group, interesting debates took place on self regulation on internet. A student indicated that self-regulation is acceptable to be adopted to regulate or govern the internet, however, such approach should be along with other mechanism especially national legislation which could set the principles for self-regulation approach. It was also noted that the public must be educated and awareness must be raised. I am a tutor at Diplo and also a policy level administrator in the university sector in Sri Lanka
In which ways the capacity building provided by Diplo has helped you and your community in Internet governance issues? (Question only for IGCBP Alumni)
The capacity building on IG has helped me immensly as it opened my insight to a whole new topics in the area of internet that I did not know before. I am also intending to share this knoweldge gained among telecentre operators.

Transforming higher education through broadband

The workshop (#188)  on the above topic, on the second day of IGF11, shared experiences of a diverse group of stakeholders. The panel consisted of the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Information and Communication, Kenya,  Chief Operating Officer, Internet Society, Representative  from the Uganda Martyrs University, Kenya Education Network Trust (KENET), and a representative from Safaricom a broad band provider in Kenya.
