2nd e-Atlas meeting, Francophon West Africa : BAMAKO ( Mali) , December 7th, 8th and 9th 2009.

E-Atlas is an initiative from social researchers mainly from Toulouse Le Mirail University ( France) . Their goal is to understand how local collectivities behave with respect to the emergence of the Information Society.
However, E-Atlas is not a purely scientific research project. It’s a strong partnership between the research world and diverse stakeholders involved in the information society ( local administrations, NGOs, private actors, ….
The first E-Atlas Francophon West Africa was held in… Continue

BYTC organised a remote participation hub to IGF 2009 in BUJUMBURA

Hi !
Burundi Youth Training Centre ( my organization), organised a remote participation hub to IGF 2009 in Bujumbura.
(but we couldn't register our hub into the list of official remote hubs because I was travelling some days before the event).
BYTC has been created 1999. Our core actions are oriented in ICTs especially for Youths : ( training, sensitization, etc...)
The goal of the remote hub for IGF was to create awareness and sensitize burundian youths on different issues related to Internet G… Continue

Second EAIGF (Nairobi, September 7th -9th 2009)

For the second EAIGF, I arrived late and a bit tired (on my way back from the GAID Global forum in Monterrey, Mexico)!
I could catch the session of 8th September in the afternoon and the one of the 9th September in the morning.

The session of 8th September afternoon was about critical Internet resources in the region. Adiel Akplogan ( from ICANN) presented about the allocation of IP addresses. One fact is that is that this allocation is a bottom-up, continuous and open process, where any… Continue

A good point for a IGF- Burundi !

I and some members of ISOC Burundi have been thinking of an IGF in Burundi for burundian stakeholders.
I had been thinking that it would be hard to create awareness on IG issues as Burundi was absent even in EAIGF (http://www.eaigf.or.ke/abteaigf.html).
I got a very good news for that process this morning in Hyderabad : While attending the "Second Parliamentary Forum on Shaping the Information Society : the Role of Parliaments and Legislators", I could meet one MP from Burundi.
He is Honorable S… Continue

Hii JP,
how is Mexico,
The IGF Burundi was a success I tell u,
The first day we were around 100 participants and my theme as well gave a view on IGF process where we discussed on issues and benefits we could gain from.
the discussions went to the level of discussing about ICANN function and we maintained the discussions at national level, all presentations were great and among participants ,were high Gvt representatives included some of Senate,Ministry of TPT ,etc...
Some recommendations have been drafted and will be posted to the ISOC website.
It was a great chanllenge also where we called political parties willing to win in 2010 to include in their propaganda an ICT and Internet access to all Burundians,

etc.
I will attend EAIGF ,hope to meet you there,

Jean-Yves
