Profile Information

Did you take the Internet Governance Capacity Building Programme - IGCBP from DiploFoundation? If so, in which year? Who was tutoring you?
Yes; 2010, Marilia Maciel
Where did you ¨discover¨ this Community portal?
I had visited it earlier while researching a bit on IG, but decided to join after Diplo's IGCBP.
What are you currently doing today and projects you have related to Internet governance?
I'm conducting graduate research on the concept of intellectual commons, which I see as very much connected to the idea of IG (both the concept of commons in general, and the subset of the intellectual commons). While my research originally had a more theoretical focus and was not centered on case studies, I'm considering approaching internet governance as an example of commons governance, inside the scope of my dissertation.

I participate in a number of discussions and mobilizations related to IG, and particularly intellectual property. Examples include: the Science & Democracy World Forum; the movement for the reform of the Brazilian copyright law; and mobilizations in defense of the commons (such as The Future of the Commons retreat, that took place last year, and the World Day of Commons, that will happen on the next October 15th).
In which ways the capacity building provided by Diplo has helped you and your community in Internet governance issues? (Question only for IGCBP Alumni)
The IGCBP presented me a broad and comprehensive vision of the issues we face in IG. It taught me a lot about them; but most of all, it helped me in thinking about which of them have the biggest impacts on the global South. I hope this knowledge and the acquaintances made during the course will help me in spreading the awareness about those issues.
