Profile Information

Did you take the Internet Governance Capacity Building Programme - IGCBP from DiploFoundation? If so, in which year? Who was tutoring you?
2008; Marsha, Adela, Carolina, Hanane
Where did you ¨discover¨ this Community portal?
Seiiti invited me to join
What are you currently doing today and projects you have related to Internet governance?
Today I am teaching King Lear and an introduction to poetry, also assisting with planning towards my college's transition to degree granting status. IG projects: there is a CIVIC meeting coming up in November where I hope, with support from Javier from Colombia, another IGCBP person, to make a case for active inclusion of linguistic diversity in the Caribbean region. In St Lucia I have been/am involved with two issues: the scrutiny of several proposed pieces of "internet" legislation; and we are still trying to get set up a St Lucia Chapter of the Internet Society.
In which ways the capacity building provided by Diplo has helped you and your community in Internet governance issues? (Question only for IGCBP Alumni)
Diplo taught me and I have tried to pass on the teaching, or at least an awareness of the issues of Internet governance, and of its importance even in our little island. Hopefully the institution where I work will actually be working on a project with Diplo in the near future.

Update

It has been pointed out me that in the circumstances that I have submitted a nomination to be considered as a member of the Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) to the United Nations Secretary General on the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) for 2016, people may very well be looking for more up to date information about me and what I am doing. So here it is.

I live in the small island state of Saint Lucia, which has been my home since 1972. I have become familiar over the last…

Who are the stakeholders?

Grace posted some interesting ideas on Multistakeholderism yesterday, on which I've just commented.

On Friday last week I read the article referred to below on the BBC website. I noticed what appeared to be an important omission if we're considering "stakeholders" and reaching a sound decision based on discussion which includes all available perspectives. I would be interested to hear what other people think.

On 10th August on the BBC website I found…

Opening ceremony

Thanks to Mary for editing and the whole Diplo team for their support and encouragement.

This is what I said:

Your Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen, Fellow Members of Civil Society, Friends,

I come from a small island state called Saint Lucia, in the Caribbean. But then each of us comes from a small island state called – ourselves. We're all alone, all…

Istanbul IGF 2014 - Can YOU help please?

Last year in Bali the generosity and good will of the Diplo alumnae was really touching to see. In spite of the fact that none of us had funding from Diplo everyone rallied round to help.

This year I'm lucky enough to have funding to go to Istanbul, and I'm hoping that the same spirit will be there again among all of us who will be present in situ. This year my funding has specific tasks attached to it which will leave me with less free time. If you will be in Istanbul can you please…

The idea of an OECS focus group would be great. Brightpath Foundation and our Government ICT department recently held a mobile app development workshop for about 80 persons. The interest was phenomenal. Some of us are expected to meet later today to keep the youths engaged and developing apps.

Blessings Deirdre. Pleasure to link up with you as well. I have seen much discussions from you on CIVIC; now it's good to place a face with the name. Looking forward to our future connections; digital and otherwise.
