"How lovely to hear from you again! I was in a workshop on Friday when your invitation arrived - hence the delay. And I had thought we were friends already - oops! Medicine and Internet Governance/Policy is a neglected area, but as the technology…"

Freedom to choose

Freedom to Choose Jovan suggested that I might expand and share the ideas on this topic that I proposed during his recent webinar on the early history of diplomacy. I had a nagging feeling that I had already done that. The blog post below is what I was thinking about. The right to disagree Is anyone else concerned about the erosion of our right to disagree, not to join, to be “different”, to say “no”? We talk quite a lot about diversity, and yet these rights, critical to the existence of…See More

Profile Information

Did you take the Internet Governance Capacity Building Programme - IGCBP from DiploFoundation? If so, in which year? Who was tutoring you?
2008; Marsha, Adela, Carolina, Hanane
Where did you ¨discover¨ this Community portal?
Seiiti invited me to join
What are you currently doing today and projects you have related to Internet governance?
Today I am teaching King Lear and an introduction to poetry, also assisting with planning towards my college's transition to degree granting status. IG projects: there is a CIVIC meeting coming up in November where I hope, with support from Javier from Colombia, another IGCBP person, to make a case for active inclusion of linguistic diversity in the Caribbean region. In St Lucia I have been/am involved with two issues: the scrutiny of several proposed pieces of "internet" legislation; and we are still trying to get set up a St Lucia Chapter of the Internet Society.
In which ways the capacity building provided by Diplo has helped you and your community in Internet governance issues? (Question only for IGCBP Alumni)
Diplo taught me and I have tried to pass on the teaching, or at least an awareness of the issues of Internet governance, and of its importance even in our little island. Hopefully the institution where I work will actually be working on a project with Diplo in the near future.
Please list the names of organizations you are a member of, including hyperlinks for more information when possible.

Not really a blog post

Just a reminder for those who may not have noticed that it is possible to register as a remote participant (if like me you're thousands of miles away) for the various meetings coming up in Paris - WSIS + 10, IGF planning and the MAG - over the next couple of weeks.

The deadline is tomorrow, 20th February, so you still have time.

It's a way of demonstrating how much we value the opportunity for remote participation, and how many remote participants there are.

And…

Ocean going yachts and social media

Before it gets cold …

I just attended the Diplo webinar Social Media and Diplomacy - the new normal. I’m interested to hear other people’s ideas on two of the issues that came up.

The first is that the speaker, Pete Cranston, suggested that the digital divide is being obliterated – or at least that is my understanding of what was said. While that may be true of the “elite” – his term – and so of the lateral divide, it seems to me that the divide still exists, and may be getting…

The right to disagree

Is anyone else concerned about the erosion of our right to disagree, not to join, to be “different”, to say “no”? We talk quite a lot about diversity, and yet these rights, critical to the existence of “diversity”, are hardly considered. Instead we are swamped and carried away in the tsunami of insistence that we conform to the opinion and actions of the current loudest voice.

Is it that in a global population of 7 billion people we can no longer afford the luxury of diversity, but…

The idea of an OECS focus group would be great. Brightpath Foundation and our Government ICT department recently held a mobile app development workshop for about 80 persons. The interest was phenomenal. Some of us are expected to meet later today to keep the youths engaged and developing apps.
