Excellent initiative, Ginger!

To be able to discuss how to have good Remote Participation next year, seems that the best is to get involved in the next days - this is a unique opportunity to see how things work so we will be able to use this experience for 2009.

The remote participation tools that the IGF Remote Participation Group are providing are great: hubs were approved by the IGF and also the use of a new software, DimDim.

This means that ANYONE can participate, no matter if going to Hyderabad or not.

How to do it?

1) Preparing

I recommend that all of you read the recent Synthesis Paper since it is a good overview of what is going on and the contributions of different collaborations.

Also, keep the ideas, discussions and resources of the Internet Governance Capacity Building Programme (IGCBP) in mind - since the login and password still work, you can enter the classroom again to refresh your ideas!

2) Choosing

Now that you are warmed up, take a look at the programme and find which are the events you are interested in. Remember to look not only to main sessions but also to the workshops - get familiar with the IGF Web site to find this info easily.

Make notes, including the time when each activity will happen.

Go to time zone converter to find what is the local time in Hyderabad. Or, if you prefer something more simple, make a Google search typing ¨time in Hyderabad¨ in the search box.

Then, you know what time the events will happen... in your city!

3) Participating

When the IGF meeting starts, be sure to check the IGF Web page - this is where you will find the links to participate. You will see the streaming videos and audio, the transcripts, and also - most importantly - the email addresses to send interventions and also the links to use DimDim.

RIGHT NOW, before the event starts you can already take action. You can send your questions by email and also post YouTube video replies to this video from the Secretariat. When recording your video, be sure to introduce yourself saying your name and the organization you represent.

That's it - simple 3 steps and you are actively participating in the IGF Hyderabad no matter where in the planet.

I would like to share with you my two cents as a result of remote participation at IGF.

First, this is really a unique chance, as for those who wouldn't able to be physically present at IGF, remote participation is the only chance to become a part of it. I had a chance to participate online in several workshops which is great. Though due to very slow connection I am not able to follow fully the whole discussions, but overall got the idea what's going on in Hyderabad, and what has been discussed. I was a part of Youth workshop on the first day, as well as "participated" at today's workshop "Building a Global Capacity Building Curriculum Framework", where Diplo people Pri and Vlada were among panelists. I had chance to post a message and it was announced just after 3 minutes I posted it (attached I also made a snapshot and send it to you). This makes me feel a part of the workshop, as if I took the microphone and said something during the discussions, being personally present in it.

The only difficulty is connectivity issue, meaning its slowness, otherwise the platform is very userfriendly, navigation is easy. This type of communication is very useful and should be continued for future.

Thanks again for Seiiti who did a great job in coordinating our efforts, directing us where to go (though at the beginning during the first day I felt some frustration, without knowing how to navigate and where to go), but Dimdim presentation video posted on time was very helpful in overcoming the first frustration feeling.

It is for the first time I participate in the workshop remote and this is very interesting experience.

It is great to have your feedback, Siranush - please check with Raquel, Marilia, Ginger and Rafik how you can send your feedback to the working group - this is important to improve the services
