In Kenya the two main Mobile operators Safaricom (Vodaphone) and Zain have money transfer services as value additions to their services. The money transfer services allows a user to send and receive money from their mobile phone. This feature works like a small bank in your pocket! the current limit is approximately USD $350 per day on your phone. Recently other additional services were added to this feature allowing you (the user) to pay for utility bills or even withdraw money from an ATM using the money "banked" on your phone. Safaricom's Product M-Pesa recently joined forces with a Small micro enterprise financial institution called SMEP. Their Union M-Pesa & SMEP now allows the micro finance customers to recieve and repay their loans from wherever they are through their phone! This feature in my view greatly aids in the reduction of the digital divide!
