Does anyone already have their visa? Visas should be free for the IGF. The information on the Host country's page (http://igf2008.in/Travel.aspx) confirms this, and I have attached the fax that your regional consulate should have received, in case this helps. Ideas?

Very important and useful document, Ginger!
In case any of you need a letter of invitation (shall not be necessary, but experience shows that in some consulates they are requiring this) please do let me know and I will follow up with you.

It seems that it's taking time to issue the Visa at least for me, it's been almost 4 weeks that i am waiting for the approval!

Hanane, that is in Malta?

@Seiiti in case of problem what we should do? what are the "must" document to bring?

Not yet here, Ginger. I managed to get an invitation/certification letter, the gratis visa note, IGF registration confirmation but was advised to wait for flight iterinary before applying. I even faxed the Indian Embassy in Manila last week but still no reply, as I am assuming attending the IGF might have a different visa category. I am worried only as I had experienced getting my visa a week before departing for the OECD meeting in Seoul and I was running out of time by then. I hope this won't happen again.

In my case, the Indian Embassy is in Manila and that's a long and expensive travel for me to get a visa. But I am preparing everything for submission. In my experience, it is much more convenient to let a travel agency follow-up visa applications (for a fee) as they can just do the "reminding" and then inform you if you need to make a personal appearance. Anyhow, that is, if the consulate is not in your area.

is there invitation letter?

I just called the Indian Embassy in Manila an hour ago. The general requirements are application form, 2X2 pictures, and then the travel iterinary. I am assuming the iterinary would include hotel reservation and flight details? How soon do you suppose we can have this information?

Rafik, there is an invitation letter but you have to ask for it though. You can email Mina.

Yes, I just called again this morning and this is what I was told ' We don't have your passport yet and we can't chase the Embassy in Libya to know the status of your application! You need to wait until we call you.

I gave them all the necessary documents, at this stage I have no idea how this can be sorted out.

i'm concerned - this should not be that complicated... maybe you should contact Indian organizers

Hi Hanane,

I hope in my case it won't be that difficult.

I paid for a travel agency to follow-up my visa application. I learned, too, that the India Embassy in Manila only accepts courier applications, which means only accredited courier companies submit applications and then the courier mails it to the applicant. Have you checked this?

In my case, the travel agency I hired is acting in my behalf since the consulate is in Manila and I live in the province. There is a receipt for acceptance of application. My travel agency has a local contact in Manila which makes it easier for them to deal there (wherever the consulate is). Both Elias Espinosa and I did the same thing and the travel agency will call to follow-up and then we will pick up our passport from the travel agency. I am paying $35 to the travel agency for this service which definitely saves me from all the hassles like long-distance calls and traveling to Manila.

I think they have a particular section for following up visas only? I think they have the "Second Secretary" for Consular services. In our case, we were informed that visa applications for Filipinos will take only 2-3 days.

Would it help if IGF organizers can fax the consulate regarding fast tracking the visa processing?

Good luck!

Regards,
Charity

Hi everyone,
I managed to get the visa for India. We Sri Lankans did not visa for India sometime ago, but now due to the terrorist problem in Sri Lanka, visa is required. But, its an easy process. I got mine in a couple of days. Then noticed that they made a mistake in spelling my name. So sent back the passport and got the correction done. My travel agent handled the process. Anyway, I live close to the embasy hence its not a major issue even if I had to go there by my self.
