Videos from Tobago workshop - Simulation of Multistakeholder dialogue on Caribbean IG/ICT Forum

Last minute of the simulation on "Multistakeholder dialogue on the agenda of the Caribbean IG/ICT Forum" where representatives of civil society, government and business are trying to reach consensus (and, of course, fail to do so) in the last round of the time-pressured negotiations

Hi Team,

This is the link to the webcast for the LAC Convention on IG in Trinidad www.ctu.int/ig7

If you are not attending and want to ask any questions or make points, please post them here so those in attendance can represent your voice and we can all be as involved no matter where we are.

Best,

Shheba

Hi Team,

Our brainstorming activity with the Wishes on the Internet was a great start. We were told that the format of the upcoming Caribbean IGF (tomorrow) and Regional Prep Meeting will be largely discussions and I encourage you to participate remotely if you are not here. I haven't seen the link for remote participation uploaded yet but I've contacted the organisers and will let you know asap here.Have a look at the Agenda and see if there are any issues/questions that you would like to raise http://www.ctu.int/events/details/50-latin-american-and-caribbean-c... In the absence of the remote participation link you can post any points you want to raise here in the meantime and those at the event can raise them. I think it is important for our Caribbean region to get involved even if we do not all have the opportunity to be there. Those of us that are here would gladly assist in any way we can.

Did you see this: steps are being taken to end the telecom monopoly in Guyana, info posted by Anneal in the Advanced Infrastructure IGCBP course that is just ending:

Major shake-up in telecoms industry…

By Leonard Gildarie
In what will be one of the most significant shake-up to the industry over the last two decades, Government is to table legislation today that will break the telephone monopoly of the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T), effectively throwing the market wide open for other companies to come in.

Awareness is what creates the privacy "brouhaha" sometimes. Think about your email provider for a minute. Do you know what they do with your emails? Do they share them with others, for example? I do agree that awareness is important where especially where awareness is possible. However, this is not always the case. I have a simple principle and it goes like that "whatever i would not like to share, i leave offline'. The assumption is that whatever i place in online 'public' spaces, will be shared one way or the other.

It's nice to know how people in different age groups think about Internet.. Privacy and Intrusion are two different phenomena..While on the internet, you can maintain your own privacy by becoming aware of how privacy can be compromised. If you don't know how to set Facebook preferences, it's not Facebook's fault. But if Facebook is able to read what is on your computer, then we can blame on it.

So, it's all about awareness. We often subscribe to many services to avail some free offers without reading "Terms of Service" that mention all about how your privacy can be compromised.

Therefore, I would like to comment that awareness is critical to maintaining privacy.

The additional five opinions from Suriname:
I wish the internet would be more accessible for all
Ambassador, Suriname, early fifties.
I wish the internet would be made available to all employees at the ministry, including me.
Administrative Assistant, Suriname, late thirties.
I wish the internet would not be so intrusive, when it comes to my private and personal time.
Ex-Police Chief, Suriname, 50 years old.
I wish the internet had improved security and protection for your privacy.
Jurist, Suriname, early fifties
I wish the internet could be accessible to more people, if only the laptops and computers became less expensive.
Legal Adviser, Suriname, late forties.
