I am helping with arrangements for a conference about the human rights implications of the use of ICT and the Internet in Latin America which will be held in Brazil. It is a spinoff from the Silicon Valley Human Rights Conference, which was recently hosted by Access. See https://www.rightscon.org/ We thought it would be a good idea to include the Caribbean in the Conference, which will be held in May along similar lines. representatives from social media sites, government, technology companies and activists will be present. There should be much more awareness of these issues before rather than after the fact in the region. If anyone is involved in digital human rights in the Caribbean or would like to be involved in the Conference let me know. It has not been publicised yet, so I will keep you posted with updates. It will also be good if we could use this forum to start some discussions on these issues as they relate to the Caribbean! Looking forward to hearing what you think!

I certainly agree that the 'silent C in LAC', the Caribbean, should be included in all of these initiatives. There are so many things that, at least in the anglophone Caribbean, we seem, as a society, to be unaware of, or feel that we can safely ignore. I would be happy to be involved. Let me know if/how I can help.
That is great Deirdre! I will keep in touch about it!
Hi Keisha:
I can answer that Keisha. I am pretty sure that the general public does not know that much. In some ways they may know of some issues but not in-depth.
