Internet for Education

Education is a right and not a privilege. Hence the Internet should be used to deliver free online university education.

Case in point: University of the People

This is a new idea that came to me that I believed we could have discussed at the workshop. My colleagues said they wanted to use the Internet for education, but I do not think they elaborated how they expected to use the Internet to deliver that education.

As far as I saw it in the workshop, we could deliver education through CD-ROM, DVD and other computer devices without the use of the Web.

This is a great topic that we should explore in more detail, Mark, thanks!!! Did you take a look at the Diplo online courses too? :)

Another platform to explore is Moodle and we must be sure to discuss Open Educational Resources such as MIT Open Courseware at http://ocw.mit.edu/index.htm.

Yes, I am aware of Moodle. My university is using it now.

I am also aware of MIT Open Courseware. Yes, I believe in free education, especially free university education. Universities are/were publicly funded, and as such they have a duty to give back to society freely as they have received.

ICTs through open courseware and other open educational resources can facilitate this.
