Event Description

------------------------------------
The Association for the Progress of Communications (APC), the Rede de
Informações para o Terceiro Setor (RITS) and LACNIC, announces that
the second Regional Preparatory Meeting of the Internet Governance
Forum (IGF) will be held on August 11 to 13, 2009 at the Hotel Novo
Mundo in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

In view of the good review of this initiative whose first edition was
held in Montevideo in 2008, the three organizations invite the
community of Latin America and the Caribbean to participate widely in
this multipartite meeting open to all those interested, with the aim
of identifying high-priority and relevant subjects for Latin America
and the Caribbean which must be considered for the agenda and the
discussions of the Fourth Internet Governance Forum (IGF) to be held
in the locality of Shar El Sheik, Egypt in November 2009.

The meeting will allow the discussion and exchange within several
workshops and plenary activities focused in the main thematic axes of
the Internet Governance Forum which this year motto is “Internet
Governance - creating opportunities for all”.

The detailed information on the agenda and organization will be
updated in the website:
http://www.nupef.org.br/igf/

relevant actors, LACNIC will held on August 11th its Consultation
Meeting with the purpose of updating the actors of the regional
Internet community (governments, NGOs, chambers and enterprise
associations, academic networks) on their activities, projects,
progresses and goals, as well as to receive their opinion regarding
the most relevant topics for the community.
